The history of pewter in New England can be traced to our country’s earliest days. While several reputable pewter manufacturers still exist, only one company still creates pewter hollowware using the old-fashioned hand-casting method and it’s based right here in our state: Hampshire Pewter.

The workshop for Hampshire Pewter is in the eastern part of the state in Somerswoth, New Hampshire, but the company has a Gift Shop in Wolfeboro, which is just a short drive from the B&B.

The family-owned and operated company prides itself in making finely hand-crafted usable pewter products, such as goblets, candlesticks, and tankards (You can imagine John Adams drinking his morning hard cider from one of these!). All are hand-cast from Hampshire Pewter’s lead-free, specialized Queen ‘s Metal formula, assuring excellent quality and durability.

If you visit the Gift Shop, you’ll find a nice selection of Hampshire Pewter products, as well as pieces from several other North American pewter companies that meet the high standards and utilize similar hand-crafting methods. It’s a great little place to find gifts for special occasions, and entertaining accessories.
